Georgetown’s Second Annual Fashion’s Night Out
Calling all D.C. fashionistas: Fashion's Night Out is an evening you won't want to miss.
By Claire H. Goldman
For the second year in a row, D.C.-area fashionistas will flock to Georgetown for an evening of fashion and fun. Fashion’s Night Out, held the same night as NYC’s original FNO, is an amazing opportunity for shoppers to rejoice in their love of fashion. The bottom line? With 100 merchants getting in on the action, we believe it’d be a true fashion faux pas to miss out. Here’s why.
Our Picks: Throughout the night, Brightest Young Things brings the BYT Lounge at Dean & DeLuca and serves up refreshments, live music, DIY “flower power” accessory making and a fab photo-shoot wall to bring out the celebrity within.
Walking down the aisle soon? For all of you star-crossed lovers out there, the “Get Hitched in Georgetown” wedding contest and prize giveaway is a chance for 50 couples to compete for their dream wedding in Georgetown. And seriously, the package is good. More than 20 Georgetown stores have contributed to the prize package for the winning engaged couple.
Prizes include a wedding gown from designer bridal store Hitched, a reception for 100 people at Seqouia at Washington Harbour, invitations from Dandelion Patch (below), a wedding cake from Patisserie Poupon and a wedding suite at Georgetown’s Four Seasons Hotel (right). For those of us on the receiving end of the bouquet toss, we suggest getting there to watch the couples compete.
(it’s like Georgetown’s action-packed version of “The
Newlywed Game.”) The competition is set to take place at TD Bank Georgetown at 8:30 p.m. and will also feature 9-year-old DJ prodigy, DJ Beauty and the Beatz, on the ones and twos. For more details and a chance to compete (registration ends Sept. 2), visit the website.
More we like at FNO: The “Express Yourself” event from 7−8:30 p.m. at Appalachian Springs will include a book signing with Amy E. Goodman, author of Wear This, Toss That.
At Michel Richard’s Citronelle in the Latham Hotel (right), guests may indulge in a
combination of food, wine and fashion during the “Vintage en Vogue” event from 6−10 p.m. Get pampered with hand and foot treatments while embracing your funky side at the full-on roller disco at Lush Georgetown happening all night. And yes, there’s even stuff for the men out there. Be sure to stop by Lost Boys for the “Going out Lost Boys Style: The Lost Art of the Pre-Game” FNO event complete with shoe shines, straight razor shaves and a barbershop quartet.

Also, stop by Crumbs Bakery to try its special Fashion Week “Tuxedo” cupcake, available from Sept. 8−16. A delicious and charitable deal, if you buy five of the “Tuxedo” cupcakes from September 8−16, the sixth is free. Plus, a portion of the proceeds goes to the New York City AIDS Fund in the New York Community Trust.
Can’t deal with your high heels all evening? The famed pedicabs of last year’s FNO Georgetown will be back in full force. Simply present your receipt from any participating Georgetown merchant that night for a free ride from shop to shop. Keep an eye to the sky on your ride for a glimpse of the Fashion’s Night Out hot air balloon, which will be soaring above the streets of Georgetown. [photo, left, of Asst. Editor Chloe Thompson and VIP guest, Whitney Guttmann]
